Guinevere "Genny" Albert
Somewhere around age 3 in the midst of potty-training, Guinevere “Genny” Albert locked herself in the bathroom and declared loudly to all that she hoped would hear (her 3 sisters, father, and mother), “I DO IT MYSELF!”
Thus began Genny’s journey of independence, peak-seeking, and pushing through limitations – even as her parents’ dynamic lives took her through 15 schools in her K-12 education in 3 states with widely polar socio-economic-cultural fundamentals; and in public, private, home, and college-prep programs culminating in a ridiculously easy GED (high school equivalency exam) at age 16.
Ever enterprising and gifted with math and words, Genny took an undergraduate degree in business from a tiny college in 1991 and pushed her way into real estate investment management. Fifteen years later, in 2006, she grabbed the brass ring as the youngest partner in a top 20 private equity real estate investment management firm. In 2007, she led a team into one of the largest land development company transactions in the history of the US. In 2008, she was still at the helm as it went into bankruptcy. In 2009, she was unemployed after having laid off her entire team.
From a childhood of change to a life on the ‘hedonic treadmill’, what Genny learned about and studied most was PEOPLE. Her curiosity led her to travel, and then, in a small community in the Galapagos Islands, Genny witnessed for herself that there is nothing more valuable than the collective love in a tribe. She realized she didn’t want to “do it herself” anymore, nor could she. From there, the pathless journey began in search of her own tribe. Genny is a Master of Science Candidate in Behavioral Engineering – Organizational Development & Adult Learning. Her experience, passion, and love of team brings her squarely to Vanguard with a desire to see a global citizen-level pivot towards sustained building of what she calls ‘supergroups’ to redeem our species and our home, Earth.
